If you are a person that loves xmas and all family feasts, you better not read this blog ;). Can't say I didn't warn you.
I once saw a movie called "The Gods must be crazy". It's an old one from the eighties and very funny at times. The story is about a village of bushmen that finds a coca cola bottle. It's their first encounter with western technologyand everyone in the village wants to use it for something, because it's hard and easier to use then their own tools. When the chief of the village views how his people are arguing about the use of the bottle and get into more and more fights because of it, he takes the bottle to throw it over the edge of the world en get rid of it. HIs journey to the edge of the world is full of funny encounters.
The main part of this movie that I remembered, was that for those bushmen it's always tuesday. Their sense of time is based on the sun, but they don't care what day it is, nor if it's something special. I think they have some rituals, of course, but not related to time.
While I am very happy to have a 2 weeks holiday right now, I can't stand all the fuss that is being made around some feasts. Especially xmas which, to me, is one of the most commercial and hypocritical ones of all.
Is there anyone out there who knows what we are celebrating? The birth of Christ? The birth of the new light? Santa Claus?
