What is the process of getting a password reminder for legacy avatars? Is there one?

After filling in your legacy avatar name on the screen coolnet560 gave the link for, you're taken to another screen where there are two further fields to complete.

One is for the answer to your secret question. The other is for a current email address to which a new password will be sent.

Here's the rubric:
Please answer the 'secret question' associated with your old avatar, OR provide the old email address assigned to that avatar.

So if you never set a secret question for your old avie, there's still a possibility of resetting the password -- IF you can remember the old email address.

It's not altogether clear, by the way, where you should type in the old email address -- I assume in the box for the Secret Answer?

What happens after this, I do not know -- other than being locked out for trying too many times to recall the old email address. (It gets reset after a few hours so you can try again then.)

Thanks for the welcome, Thumdar!

A bit more investigation revealed that if you have not set a secret question, you leave that field blank. Type the email address associated with the legacy avatar in the email field.

If you're successful, you'll see a message like this:
We have tried to reset the password for the old avatar:
<legacy avatar name>
The new password has been emailed to:
<old email address>
Once you receive the email containing the new password, you may then register a new avatar using the old avatar name and the new password.
If you do not receive the email in a reasonable time (say, five minutes), you may need to check your spam filters and/or try again. But each time you try, it will reset the password to a new random value, so a little patience might prevent confusion later on :-)

Quite what you do if the old email address is no longer active, I'm not sure.

So i guess im screwed?
I dont remember the password to my old avatar, but Mackie is giving me hints as to what the email was, as i didnt have a secret question...


However i was stupid enough to use random emails, which i didnt even create as real emails,

i'm guessing there's nothing i can do, right?

You'll need to remember the original fake address and tell that to Mackie lol

Or remember your password. One of them two.

so....basically im screwed?

1. I have absolutely no idea which password i used, I have tried the passwords that i use for everything else, but they are incorrect.

2. As the email was a made up one, it would of been something that just popped into my head and i wrote it down, or could of been This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for all i know, lol

Yep, you're screwed. Also, since you used a fake email and random password, you won't be finding much love from Makena. As a website owner, I can relate. The one thing that is always mandatory when registering to a website is a real email. If someone uses a fake email, they forfeit their rights.

Using the email field for two purposes -- to give the old email address associated with the legacy avatar name for those who didn't set up a secret question AND for sending a new password to -- is causing a problem for some who originally used a genuine address but then had to abandon it in subsequent years, perhaps because it was hacked or because they changed ISPs.

It means that they cannot receive a new password.

Would it be possible to set up a third field so that the web form would be something like this?
EITHER answer the 'secret question' associated with your old avatar:
Secret Question: Blah blah blah?
Secret Answer: <Field>

OR provide the old email address assigned to that avatar.
Old email address: <Field>

Current email address, to which we will send your new password: <Field>

I have old avatar name and might be able to remember password with a hint. Have old email address but no access to it.

So according to what is written above, I need to find Mackie for a hint. How do I get a hold of her? I deleted her IM from yahoo.

Here is my problem now. No hint was made or saved so that will not work. I am willing to pay for the monthly membership and had the invite sent to a working email address and can reset it but I need the old password & old email address right? I don't want the new password sent to the old address. So now what?
