Safety and Security Policy

Thumdar Safety and Security Policy

Effective Date: 5/7/2025

At Thumdar, your safety is not just a priority — it’s a foundational part of everything we build. Our platform is designed to support creativity, connection, and community, but none of that is possible without the trust and security of those who call it home. This Safety and Security Policy outlines our commitment to keeping you protected, explains what we do to maintain a secure environment, and offers best practices for safeguarding your account and interactions.

This policy works hand-in-hand with our Privacy Policy, Acceptable Use Policy, and Community Guidelines. We encourage all users to read and understand each document as part of their responsibility to themselves and others.

1. Our Security Commitment

Thumdar operates on a foundation of proactive safety, technical diligence, and community care. From secure infrastructure to content moderation and user tools, we’ve implemented layered safeguards to protect personal data, defend against malicious behavior, and foster a trustworthy space for collaboration and communication.

We don’t just react to threats — we aim to prevent them wherever possible. Security is a shared responsibility, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.

2. Data Handling and Protection

We collect a minimal amount of personal data — such as your name, email address, or optional contact information — only for essential functions like account creation, support, and communication. This data is:

  • Stored securely using encrypted systems
  • Never sold, traded, or shared without legal obligation
  • Handled in accordance with data protection laws (including GDPR, CCPA, and others where applicable)
  • Protected with routine internal audits and infrastructure reviews

More detailed information can be found in our Privacy Policy.

3. Account and Credential Security

Your account is your identity on Thumdar — and keeping it secure starts with you. We strongly recommend:

Using best practices to help you keep your account safe:

  • Choose a strong password: Use at least 8 characters (the more, the better) and include a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
  • Avoid obvious choices: Don’t use names, common words, or predictable sequences like “123456” or “password.”
  • Use unique passwords: Don’t reuse passwords from other websites or services. Each account you care about deserves its own.
  • Update regularly: Change your password every few months to reduce the risk of compromise.
  • Use a password manager if needed: It can help you generate and store secure, complex passwords without needing to memorize them all.

The more complex and unique your password is, the more secure your account will be.

If you ever believe your account has been accessed without permission, please use the reporting tools or contact us immediately using the form at the bottom of this policy.

4. Infrastructure and Hosting Safeguards

Thumdar is hosted with a secure provider using enterprise-grade protections, including:

  • Active firewall systems
  • DDoS mitigation
  • 24/7 uptime monitoring
  • SSL encryption
  • Isolated resource environments to protect user data

Our systems are regularly updated to patch vulnerabilities and prevent common exploits. We do not rely on a single point of defense; our approach involves multiple layers of risk mitigation to ensure resilience.

5. Content Safety and Moderation

All content on Thumdar — including uploads, messages, forum posts, group activity, and media — is subject to moderation. Our tools and team monitor for:

  • Harassment, threats, or abusive language
  • Hate speech, discriminatory behavior, or incitement of violence
  • Fraudulent schemes, impersonation, or phishing attempts
  • Inappropriate media or NSFW content.
  • All content related to minors or underage parties.

We rely on both automated systems and human oversight, and we empower users to assist through built-in reporting and blocking features. You’re never alone in maintaining a safe environment — your actions matter, too.

6. Reporting and Blocking Tools

To help maintain a safe and respectful environment, Thumdar.com provides users with built-in tools to report and manage unwanted or inappropriate interactions across the platform. These tools are intended to empower members and support the health of the community.

  • Reporting Content or Behavior: Users can report specific content such as posts, comments, profiles, messages, and uploads they believe violate Thumdar’s guidelines. Each reported item is reviewed by moderators, and appropriate action is taken based on the severity and context of the violation.
  • Blocking Members: Users have the ability to block other members if they no longer wish to engage with them. Blocking prevents further contact from the blocked member and helps users manage their personal experience on the platform.
  • Timely Review: Thumdar.com is committed to responding to reports in a timely, fair, and consistent manner. Reports are handled discreetly, and where necessary, additional investigation or action may be taken.

These tools are provided to help every member feel safe, respected, and in control of their experience. We strongly encourage users to utilize them whenever necessary, and to help us uphold the standards of our community.

For more severe violations or technical concerns, you can use the contact form located at the bottom of this policy to alert our team directly.

7. User Privacy Controls and Public Visibility

Thumdar places a strong emphasis on user privacy as an integral part of platform safety. Every member is provided with robust tools to manage their visibility and the privacy of their content. Our system is designed to give users complete control over how they appear to others—both within the community and in limited, public-facing areas of the platform.

While Thumdar is a members-only network—requiring login for access to most content—there are a few public-facing elements, such as preview snippets on the homepage (e.g., timeline post headlines, username mentions, or profile images) that may appear to non-members. These areas exist solely to demonstrate the activity and vibrancy of the community to potential new members. However, no personally identifiable information (PII), private content, or full user profiles are accessible to the public.

Here’s how privacy works on Thumdar:

  • Full Privacy Controls: Users can set individual privacy settings for their entire profile, timeline posts, photos, videos, documents, albums, events, and any other shared content. Each post or asset includes privacy options to control who can view it—ranging from “Only Me” to “Friends” to “All Members” or “Public.”
  • Private Profiles: If you choose to set your profile to private, your content will not appear in any public space and will be restricted from member-wide browsing as well, unless shared intentionally.
  • Public Visibility by Default: While your profile is visible to other logged-in members by default, only minimal information—typically your username and profile picture—might be displayed in public-facing highlights like community updates or preview cards. Clicking on these elements from outside Thumdar will redirect visitors to a login or registration prompt; they will not gain access to protected content.
  • Username Guidelines: We encourage users to choose usernames that do not reveal their real names or sensitive personal information, preserving anonymity and safeguarding identity across the platform.
  • Notification Preferences: You also have full control over how and when Thumdar contacts you. Notification preferences can be customized to match your comfort level, reducing unwanted alerts and supporting a distraction-free experience.

We strongly recommend all users explore their Privacy Settings and Notification Settings upon joining and periodically thereafter, to ensure their account reflects their personal boundaries and communication preferences. By empowering our community with flexible privacy tools, Thumdar fosters a space where individuals can connect, share, and create—safely and on their own terms.

8. Scams, Phishing, and Third-Party Caution

While we actively monitor for scams and abuse, you should also be cautious when interacting with other users, particularly when:

  • Sharing personal information
  • Receiving external links
  • Being asked for donations or financial information

Always verify donation links and only contribute to Verified Contributors or accounts you fully trust. Thumdar does not guarantee the legitimacy of user-to-user transactions and does not mediate disputes for off-site interactions.

9. Downloadable Content and Device Safety

Thumdar may host downloadable resources, such as graphics, templates, or tools provided by users or community contributors. While we do our best to screen for unsafe content, we encourage all users to:

  • Use up-to-date antivirus software
  • Scan all downloads before opening
  • Avoid installing unknown executables or modifying system files without technical knowledge

Your device’s security is your own responsibility — and it’s a key part of your overall safety online.

10. Real-World Awareness

Online safety doesn’t end at the keyboard. Please remain mindful of:

  • What you share about your real-life location or identity
  • Who you communicate with, and how much trust you extend
  • Emotional manipulation or grooming behaviors disguised as friendship

You’re always free to enjoy the community at your comfort level — and we encourage healthy boundaries in all digital interactions.

11. Ongoing Improvements and Security Reviews

Security is never “finished.” Thumdar regularly:

  • Audits its systems
  • Responds to new threats and vulnerabilities
  • Reviews user feedback to identify blind spots
  • Makes infrastructure improvements as needed

Our work behind the scenes is guided by a commitment to long-term community health — and you can help by reporting suspicious behavior, keeping your account secure, and staying informed.

12. Need Help? Let Us Know

If you’ve encountered a security issue, experienced harassment, or believe something may put the community at risk, please use the contact form located at the bottom of this policy to let us know. Your privacy will be respected, and we’ll act as swiftly as possible.
